12/30/09 - Blog

So I am thinking of making some changes to my blog.

Any suggestions?

I'm a bit stump at what to do, maybe I don't need to do anything...but I've had this look for over two years.

Help!

12/29/09 - Revelation

I just finished the book of Revelation last night. As I read it was a reminder to me how we are to keep our eternal "glasses" on.

Often I find myself just thinking of the here and now, the years on this earth. But I must not be discouraged! One day, for all eternity, I will be in a place where there is no need for light because Jesus will illuminate everything.

When we look around at our culture, the sin, the depravity of it all, we know the final outcome, and in this we rest!

12/26/09 - My single friends

Dear Single Friends,

I think of you often during this holiday season.

Two Christmas' before I got married, I came home after a beautiful Christmas Eve service and just cried. I longed for my own family, for a husband and children, to have my own traditions with. Little did I know that it would just be 18 months later that I got married.

It all felt so painful, ya know watching others have families and being single, having this longing go unfulfilled. But I knew I knew the One who knew...so in that I rested.

The holidays are tough, but rest in the safe arms of our Lord, whose birth we celebrate. Know that you are in His timing and not your own.

I wish you a very Merry Christmas and pray that as you ring in the New Year you keep your eyes on Him and not on your unmet desires!

Love,
Heather

12/15/09 - New Year's Resolution

So in the coming weeks a lot of people will make a New Year's Resolution. I have a challenge for you, if you have yet to plan yours.

Do you want to become sensitive to what in impure, unlovely, godless? Then I challenge you to cut your TV watching to one show per week and not watch one rated R movie in 2010!

In the ministry I worked in after college I signed a form that stated I would not watch rated R movies the entire year. After the year was up I did eventually see a rated R movie and it hit me that I had become re-senstitized to what is pure, lovely, holy, and of good repute. Since then I have seen very few rated R movie.

Not only that but that year I had very limited TV. Again, I had become re-senstitized.

So if you want a challenge this coming year, turn off the TV, and avoid rated R movies. By 2011 you'll be shocked at what you were desensitized to!

12/14/09 - Feasting vs. Nibbling

Do you feast on God's Word or do you nibble?

Before marriage (and kids) I had a great deal of time to myself. I am thankful that I spent time feasting on God's Word. There would be days I'd read, fast, and pray. Those days were very meaningful in cultivating a relationship with God.

The demands of my life don't allow for that time. So I do a lot of nibbling on God's Word. I have cards hanging above my kitchen sink of verses that I am working on memorizing. I have God's Word always available for those few moments I am able to read. I pray throughout the day...as I fold clothes I pray for who's clothes I am folding, or when I am holding one of my boys.

When singles ask me for some words of encouragement I normally say, "Spend your single years feasting on God's Word. You have hours upon hours you can spent fasting and praying, reading and worshiping. Fall in love with God and His Word."

So this is my encouragement to you! Feast my friend, there is a banquet of exquisite Food waiting for you!

If you'd like me to post your comment, it must be in English. I am assuming if you can read then and wish to comment then you can write in English.

Okay...this is for the reader who keeps posting a comment in Chinese. ;-)

12/12/09 - Reading the Bible

Often when someone shares about a struggle they are going through I often ask, "Are you reading the bible these days?"

The normal response is, "Well, not really."

When I find myself in times of discontentment or I am lacking peace over a situation I notice my quite times have slipped off. The longer in between times of reading my bible, the more I lose my grounding. Being in God's Word every day keeps my compass pointed in the correct direction

When I am not in God's Word every day it's almost as if I find myself in a tail wind, spinning out of control. I get more easily frustrated, lose my patience, turn to other vices for comfort, and over all feel blah!

99% of the time when I am going through some struggle, if I don't stay in the Word, the struggle intensify. Then as soon as I open God's Word I see clearly. I put on that eternal perspective. The perspective that brings me to a place of peace.

Are you going through a rough season right now? Are you staying in God's Word every day?

I am praying for you. For all of you who are struggling and are not in God's Word. My heart pleads with you to go right now, open His Word, and FEAST on it!

12/08/09 - To my guy readers

Lately God has been impressing on my heart the importance of a young man knowing how powerful an influence a woman has in his life.

I've been praying for my future daughter-in-laws because I know that they can build up or tear down my sons. I pray that God will be equipping her to be the godly influence he will need in his life.

How about you? Are you aware of the influence of a woman in your life? Don't play with fire, don't even entertain the idea of dating a girl who isn't completely in love with the Lord, you will get burned!

Remember you should strive to marry a Proverbs 31 woman, not a Proverbs 5 woman!

12/07/09 - Life Verse

Do you have a life verse? Something in scripture that speaks to your goals and hopes for your spiritual life?

When I was single my life verse was: 1 Corinthians 7:34b -35:
34.... An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord's affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world—how she can please her husband. 35 I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord.

After I got married this verse no longer spoke to my spiritual goals, so I asked the Lord to give me a new verse. After prayer and reading He lead me to Colossians 3:1-18:

1Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
2 Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.
3 For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
4 When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.
5 Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.
6 For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience, 7 and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them.
8 But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth.
9 Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices,
10 and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him--
11 a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all.
12 So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience;
13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.
14 Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.
15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
17 Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
18 Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.

How about you...do you have a life verse?
