04/08/08 - Sex Week

DISCLAIMER: This post is not for younger readers!

Last night I was asked to speak at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, where the students pay over 50,000 dollars per year to attend the college. The group that invited me to speak is: Women of Worth (WoW).

The feminists at Northwestern sponsor an event called: Sex Week (please enter their site with caution!). A week long event with conversations from: The truth about being a Porn Star to Sexual Positions. (There are other events, but I don't even feel comfortable sharing them on my blog!) Yes, parents are spending over 50K to send their kids to learn the truth of what it means to be a porn star!

Their flyer's were plastered all over the campus! Everywhere read: SEX WEEK: The birds and the bees were never this hot!

A young woman, Chelsea Thompon, was sickened to learn about this Sex Week and decided to offer an alternative called: Women of Worth. She offered a free spa night last year and received donations and services from Christians all over this area. This year she has over 120 women pre-registered for her event!

This year she has added more events, one being me to come speak about Emotional Purity. There were 12 women who showed up to my event and over 400 who went to the Sex Week workshop last night. Twelve beautiful women seeking God's best for their life! Pray that God will use those women to shine His light to those around them!

We are in the minority, we are swimming up stream, we are to be counter cultural!

What if Women of Worth posters were plastered everywhere with some type of "religious" message, do you think the campus staff would allow that?

How this was so sad to me...this whole Sex Week! Women are selling themselves short, thinking the cheap sex will somehow offer the satisfaction they are looking for. When only God can bring them self worth, love, and honor.

EDIT: Please read the Women of Worth blog and here what they are up against! We're praying for you ladies!

I felt as if we were in Sodom and Gomorrah...remember Lot's wife, don't look back, keep pressing on! You did a fantastic job and it's wonderful to see that there are those who don't buy into the lie. XO

What an opportunity, Heather! Praying that the hearts of those 12 who came to hear you will be strong, steadfast, and emotionally pure before the Lord!
Thanks for being a "voice" in a dark world!
love you~

how troubling to see first hand some of the things that happen on college campuses and yet God is faithful to draw women unto Himself even in the midst of this! i'm glad you had an opportunity to both encourage and challenge those women...just imagine how different they might feel from most of the women they know?

Thank you Heather for speaking at Northwestern University last night. Your willingness to minister to 12 girls last night was such a ministry to Chelsea, not to say the impact you made on each girl as an individual. Your faithfulness was a testimony to the great God we serve. It was one more example for Chelsea to see how God's people work together to bring honor and glory to His name. WoW's message was heavily under attack today on campus. Please lift up Chelsea in prayer as she seeks to serve the Lord and communicate His message that women are fearfully and wonderfully made and that God has so much more for them. ~ Her mom

AWE! Heather, its so true! I feel like that is what colleges are showing people, going away to a school for a semester this is the message we all get. The message has nothing to do with life time satisfaction of God, but momentary satisfaction with drinking and sex. It is sad to me, and i hope that we who are the minority will be lights that will shine out, and we can show people that there is more to life than just what is the here and now, but true satisfaction is with God, we can only pray that people will come to the realization that God is our satisfaction and that these lives that are being lived are not the best lives that we could live.

You're right, Heather...it's so sad that so many girls don't realize that they just don't *have* to give themselves away.
Thank you for what you're doing to help turn the tide!

"Hey, just wanted to let you know that i thought tonight was really wonderful! meanwhile, i'm really bummed that i can't come to spa night:( , but i'm really interested in the stuff that your group is doing. it's really kind of...refreshing. Please let me know what's going on with it in the future and stuff--i'm definitely interested in being involved :)"

Hmm, what will those feminists be offering next - accredited courses in sexual services? I'd be a Woman of Worth (priceless) over a Womyn of Worth (charging by the hour) any day. Keep on spreading your message, WoW girls!

Thank you for entering the depravity of our public education system to shine Christ's light, and encourage those Godly women. I was public-schooled myself and received daily a small taste of the putrescence I can only imagine those Daughters of Christ are immersed in continually. Of them, I believe may truly be applied the Psalmists words:

119: 99 I have more insight than all my teachers,
for I meditate on your statutes.

100 I have more understanding than the elders,
for I obey your precepts.

To the Women of Worth, from one college student to another, my prayers are with you!
